An evolving legacy.

Established in 2003 by Derek Perera, the Ontario Cricket Academy program, situated in Mississauga, swiftly evolved into the cornerstone of the Ontario Cricket Development Organization. A trailblazer in its domain, by 2004, the OCA distinguished itself as the inaugural cricket academy in North America to operate year-round programs within a dedicated indoor facility, aimed at honing the skills of aspiring players.

The academy's forte lies in nurturing players by employing top-notch coaching methods and comprehensive programs. From its inception, the academy has consistently progressed, achieving remarkable milestones such as securing division titles across various categories, ranging from Under 13 to Seniors. This upward trajectory reflects its unwavering commitment to excellence.

OCA’s focus and aim is to provide the best coaching and playing opportunities, and as such, over the years numerous international and first class players and coaches have visited the academy for coaching camps, including Sanath Jayasuriya (former Sri Lanka Test player), Ian Frazier (of the Chappellway and Greg Chappell’s assistant), Robin Singh (former India Test player), Ashok Malhotra  (former India Test player), Ian Pont (ECB), Julian Wood (BBL, PSL and IPL) and Steffan Jones (IPL).

In addition to coaching and grooming players locally, the OCA has undertaken 20 international tours for youth (and adult) age group teams since 2008. The OCA has attracted global attention by being the first Canadian youth club side to tour Sri Lanka (2010) and India (2024). Our reputation precedes us and we have been granted matches against Board XI’s, major district teams and even Trinidad and Tobago U16’s.

In 2010, it was decided to officially recognize the “club” section on its own, as the membership has greatly increased over the years.  The Ontario Cricket Academy and Club fields 11 senior teams, including the highest level of domestic cricket in Canada, the Super 9 in the Toronto and District league, as well as numerous youth teams from U-13 to U-19.

As a result of the efforts to provide top level coaching and playing opportunities, many OCA&C players have gone on to represent Canada at all youth age group levels in international cricket tournaments.  As well there have been some OCA&C players who have had the opportunity to train and play individually in other countries. The continued hard work and efforts of the OCA&C coaches, players, members and supporters will ensure greater honours in the future.
