Look out Davy's back...

Davy Jacobs the former South African player who most famously opened the batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League is back at it again, this time for the Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League.  This, the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League promises to be an exciting one with some top international players such as Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, Darren Sammy, Kumar Sangakarra and a host of other notable overseas players joining up with the best Bangladeshis.

Davy was quite happy with the signing, “I love challenges and I am looking forward to this one. It’s been two years and my body has regenerated itself, I feel stronger than ever”. A true professional in every sense of the word, he has played franchise cricket in South Africa since the age of 17 and travelled the world playing County Cricket in England for Northamptonshire and in the Caribbean Premier League for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. One of his favourite achievements as a player was leading his South African T20 franchise the Chevrolet Warriors to the Champions League Finals in 2010 against M.S. Dhoni’s Chennai Superkings.

Immediately after retiring from First Class in South Africa in 2015, he migrated with his family to Canada and took up the post as Head Coach of the Ontario Cricket Academy.  Davy who moved over with wife Liz and two daughters is pleased with the move to Canada, “we’ve settled in well and are extremely happy here in Canada, so it’s time to have a crack again”.  He was pleasantly surprised at the standard of cricket being played here and has been representing the Ontario Cricket Academy- most recently playing the Mississauga Cricket Festival Night T20 scoring 58 off of 21 balls including a thrilling 34 off one over. Davy has used his coaching at the academy and recent stint as Canadian National Team Head Coach as an inspiration, “This time as a player, it feels kind of different. This time I’m not only representing myself, my family and a franchise. I’m also doing it for our academy kids at the OCA and everyone in Canada dreaming of playing pro cricket”.

This charismatic and explosive player will no doubt be a great contributor both on and off the field for the Sylhet Sixers, who have also signed on their roster amongst other international pros, Babar Azam (Pakistan), Liam Plunkett (England) and Andre Fletcher (West Indies). We are certain that players, fans and supporters from all corners of the globe that Davy has played with and encountered will be cheering, but none louder than us here in Canada.
